Ladika Hussars

Allow me to introduce the uniform of the Ladika Hussars. The colors are loosely based upon the Georgian Hussars that served in the Russian army during the Seven Years' War. Brown bearskin cap with red hatbag, yellow dolmen and pelise, trimmed in black fur. Red pants with vertical yellow stripe (on the miniatures not the picture). Shabraque blue with red border and yellow trim. This is the brightest uniform yet in Cavenderia, this squadron will not be good at night raids. I started painting the unit yesterday and hope to have them completed by the weekend. The Ladika Hussars will be advance scouting the road during the upcoming trip by Prinz Geoffrey to the festival in Twinj in an upcoming scenario. I still am not happy with the way I paint red, these Hussars will give me some more practice. I completed one as a test and he looks pretty good. Will post pictures soon.

ciao,

Wow - that's a bright, and I mean *bright*, uniform! ;-)

I'm curious to know why you used a template based on my unfinished hussar uniform, though - it's missing a few things like the sabretache suspension straps, for instance.

Reich Duke Wilhelm will be proud to be escorted by such a flamboyant unit...

could not find another one that I could easily color, even clicking to enlarge then saving I could not get the other hussar picks to color correctly.

Lovely, just lovely. It's a uniform that will make identifying photos of your battles soooo much easier later on. Well done.

Glamorous and appropriately 'exotic'!

Very bright indeed, almost "on fire"!

I like to use GW's Foundation Paint when I'm doing red (black gesso for the basecoat, then the foundation red, then a brighter red, then possibly a scarlet or other lighter or brighter red for highlights. Red is hard to get "right".

A very good-looking hussar uniform . . . they should be fun to see on the table.

Because the hussar templates are too big to post on the blog without the blog turning them into huge JPEGs, I put them on my webspace and gave links to them at the end of the log entries for the hussar templates, unlike the usual pattern where the picture *is* the template. Is that perhaps the problem? Are you trying to colour the small JPEG previews rather than the actual PNG templates? I could email you the templates if you prefer. Do let me know.

David.

At least some Cavenderian regiments *had* to reflect, by the 'barbaric splendor' of their uniform, the 'exotic' components of the Principality's rich and diverse cultural background. By their magnificient appearance at least the Ladika Hussars deserve Guard status.

We will see if the unit generates guard status by their performance in the upcomming scenario. David the basic template is ok with me, I just use it to demonstrate the colors, the detail will come out in the mini, unless you would prefer I use a more detailed template. I gave your blog a plug inmy article that is going to appear in Dadi&Piombo this quarter, I will let you know when it is published. I also mentioned a bit about imagi-nations to try and drum up more interest.

Thanks very much for the plug! :-) The more detailed template would do your unit justice, I think - naturally I prefer it to the less detailed one you used, as it cost me a lot of blood, sweat and tears. ;-) But if you're happy with the image you have, then that's no problem. You'd find it much easier to use though, as it has much better and crisper detail.

Look forward to hearing about the article; thanks.

David, in what blog entry is the new template?

Search on my blog on Hussar and that will bring up all the different versions of the hussar template - Prussian, Russian, French, Swedish and Austrian (I don't think I've left any variants out!). :-)
